One thing I’m really interested in the current Homestuck/Neverending Story situation is whether or not Hussie’s read the book. Because the movie’s just adapted from half of the book. In the movies the boy shouts the Empress’s name and Fantasia resets and he gets to ride around on Falcor, which is what we see Hussie drawing himself doing.
But in the book, which was originally done in red and green ink, if I remember right, the story keeps going. After Bastian renames the Childlike Empress —he’s not calling out her name, he’s specifically renaming her, and he gives her the name of his mother, who died— this basically reboots a fresh new version of Fantastica, and he wakes up there himself. And then he has to find a way to get back before he forgets everything. The more heroic he becomes in Fantastica, through his series of quests and adventures, the more he loses his identity as just the normal boy he was in the real world.
So— with all the elements of empresses and fantasy and self-insertion where we see characters are themselves taking part in each other’s stories and the fact that just shouting Calliope’s name isn’t cutting it and she might actually need a new name and she’s the Muse of Space and Jake and Jane are having their heads fucked with and everyone is in each other’s stories: shit is getting really interesting. And I really hope Hussie’s read the book.
